Javier Alonso, MD
Dr. Javier Alonso’s journey to becoming a board-certified dermatologist began in his native country of Spain. He began his medical studies at the Salamanca University of Medicine (Spain) and earned his medical degree from Navarra University School of Medicine. After a decade of practicing in Spain, Dr. Alonso moved to the United States to enroll in advanced training specializing in immunodermatology at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
This extensive training along with over 25 years of practicing gives Dr. Alonso a rare ability to treat some of the most complex dermatological cases and an international recognition as a leader in medical dermatology. Dr. Alonso is a key opinion leader in the field of dermatology and is actively involved in research where he has conducted over 150 clinical trials as the principle investigator.
Dr. Alonso and his family relocated to Miami in 2006 to join the faculty at the University of Miami – Miller School of Medicine as an associate professor of clinical dermatology. A teacher by nature, Dr. Alonso also began teaching residents at the Miami Veteran’s Medical Center that he continues today. In 2008, Dr. Alonso was awarded “Best Teacher Award” by the Miller School of Medicine graduating third year residents, this same compassion he carries to his patient bedside manner.
